Easter 2010 and no danger of crocodiles!

At the suggestion of Diane another VSO volunteer in Kampala - she's working as a midwife Tutor at the International Hospital - we have just spent Easter at Lake Nabugabo with Diane and her daughter Sarah. We set off on Good Friday morning and were at the Lake early in the afternoon. The weather when we arrived was great and we were soon swimming - reassured by the sign on the tree above - which says: "no danger of crocodiles"!On the way to Lake Nabugabo we crossed the Equator - the cheesy picture above is proof! As you can see from the above picture we found Sand Beach resort peaceful and tranquil - ideal for a chilled Easter breakSarah spent hours on the swingsA family of donkeys roams the Sand Beach resort - keeping the grass short - however a whiff of water melon had them bothering Diane and Sarah for their slice! This is Abdul - he drives a Kampala special hire taxi and he agreed to take us to Lake Nabugabo and back. Here he is organising our greengrocery shopping at a brilliant road-side stall on our way home.

  1. That's SOME Easter break. I'm back home in Sunderland for Easter and catching up on all your stories. It sounds as if you're both 'in tune' with the place and the people, love looking at the photos too. We're patiently getting on with our big change one step at a time and enjoying a family Easter.
Keep the journal flowing as I feel like I'm settling in as well. Lots of love,Gwen

  2. Looks and sounds like you had a lovely Easter!
Ours was a bit colder and definitely less scenic though the daffs are looking lovely at long last!
The new neighbours seem to be settling in though we haven't seen a lot of them- only heard the vacuuming so they're keeping your house clean.
Merlin has had a few attempts at scaling the fence to get the cat but hasn't succeeded yet!
A Happy Easter to you both xxxxxx

  3. What a lovely place to spend Easter! I assume that the crocodiles had all been eaten by the sharks?
    :)
How is the work going? Do you both feel settled in Kampala?
Pat & I are flying towards you (with Ben, Paula & Melissa) ... but we won't get quite as far as Uganda (4 days in Barcelona next week). Hope to catch up on your blog when we return.
    Love from us

  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RENATE!

Today is FREEDOM DAY in South Africa - 27th April - and how fitting that you should share your special day with the RAINBOW NATION of our beloved country - VIVA!

Ian will be working as a volunteer with VSO and he's set a fund raising target of £1,000 to be reached before setting off. Money raised will go to support VSO's most pressing needs - it won't be used to fund Ian's placement.
