Safe journey back and straight to a wedding!

Richard is the office manager for the MARPs Network and Saturday 28 May 2011 was the day that he and Prosy married in the village of Petete, near Mbale, in Eastern Uganda.

Ian and Renate travelled with Dr Geoffrey Mujisha (the MARPs Network's CEO) and Betty Nassaka (the Network's Treasurer) to celebrate the wedding in the company of what seemed to be the entire population of Petete. A great day and a lovely event to come back to Uganda and enjoy.

Return to Kampala - 22 May 2011!

After the excitement of the wedding in New York we are ready to return to Kampala.

We leave our house in Sheffield on Friday 20 May - stay over in Manchester and leave for Kampala in the evening of Saturday 21 May, arriving in Kampala in the early morning of Sunday 22 May.

We are pleased to be returning. Ian will once again be working with the MARPs Network - supporting Dr Geoffrey Mujisha and other members of the Network's team to build the organisation with the generous financial support of the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). To secure four years core funding with money to support activities as well in the current economic climate is an opportunity to be hugely thankful for.

Regular progress reports will be posted on this blog during the six months that we'll be in Kampala.

The interlude - a wonderful wedding in New York City

On 21 April our son Matthew married Holly Robinson in City Hall, New York City. It was a very special day with wonderful blue skies - celebrated with special friends.

Ian will be working as a volunteer with VSO and he's set a fund raising target of £1,000 to be reached before setting off. Money raised will go to support VSO's most pressing needs - it won't be used to fund Ian's placement.
